I saw an interesting take about the movie Obsession where the guy pointed out how people are quick to list the flaws of Bear and how he needed to adjust his behavior to have a better chance with Nikki, but all the while Sarah liked him as he was. His main idea being that self improvement or game is largely useless compared to simply finding the girl that likes you. And if you think about it, the biggest promoters of self improvement as a dating tactic still expect you to play the numbers game, but then what's more important? The self improvement or just spamming approaches until you find the girl that likes you? This also connects to how guys are confused when a seemingly ugly or degenerate man still gets women (Ian). He wasn't necessarily better than you, he just fit what she wanted in ways you could never replicate.
