i distinctly remember as a kid (20 years ago) being able to peel a boiled egg in only a few seconds; a few cracks on the counter, a roll, and the shell would slide straight off.

these days, i have to pick shards of shell off the fucking egg, every third egg i peel has huge chunks pulled off it where the shell sticks, and the sticky film no longer comes off with the shell.

what is happening?
