DOS General #1 Anonymous No.12824756
A thread for anything and everything DOS gaming and DOS gaming related. Hardware, software, configuration, it all goes here. Real or emulated. Win3.x included as well since it requires DOS to function. Talk about what you are playing, what hardware you have, tricks you've figured out, etc.
DOS Pro tip #1: Edit config.sys. On the line with HIMEM.SYS, add the /TESTMEM:OFF flag to disable the extended memory test and speed up booting. The more RAM you have, the more time you'll save. You don't really need to test your RAM every time you boot your PC.
Pic related is finally getting my TCP/IP packet driver loaded high with EMS enabled. At 50KBs, it wasn't finding an upper memory block large enough to fit it with default settings. Had to tell EMM386 inside of config.sys to use the M1 flag to force the page file to C000 instead of the default. It complains about that being Option ROM/RAM area, but functions fine, I just turned off all shadow caching in BIOS. Free upper memory area went from 59KBs to about 90KBs with EMS enabled(was about 120KB with EMS disabled), and memmaker had zero issues shoving the 50KB driver in there. And MOUSE is actually CTMouse, I just renamed it so I could type less during testing.
